This aerodrome, built in 1926, is the one used by land aircraft - not to be confused
with the naval aviation base. The Naval Air unit flew their Fiat CR.1s
from this location at Velciems.
Uncertain if this is the same aerodrome known as the "North Aerodrome but,
if so, it is also the one with the hangar for the civilian transport service.

November 8, 1928 - I.Karklins crashes a Fiat CR.1 at the aerodrome.
November 6, 1931 - Six people die in the collision of two HE-4 floatplanes near Liepaja.
July 5, 1936 - Aviation Festival. The cornerstone for the hangars at the new aerdrome is ceremoniously placed.
September 27, 1936 - the fourth waypoint in the first "Flight Around Latvia" competition.
October 1, 1938 - the fifth waypoint in the "Flight Around Latvia" competition. The
aviators landed to refuel and then continued on to Auce. Sapratnieks, flying Bristol Bulldog #72, suffered a tyre blowout on landing.
"Liepaja-Grobina" airfield was built during the Soviet occupation of 1940-41 and is located at the north-east end of Lake Liepaja,
between the lake and the Alandas railway station in the Grobina pagasts, on the
former "Batmuiza" property.
1942 - 1943 - German Occupation (Luftwaffe units based at Liepaja during the German occupation)
