February, 1935 - Sparnota Latvija reports that the Ventspils Aizsargi are actively preparing for the construction of
an airfield at Ventspils. Their representative, K.Mednis, and Commander N.Berzins of the naval section visited potential sites for the
new facility. The site reviewed most positively was a wide pasture (owned by the city) between the Cirspenes road and the
Kuldiga highway. The site could be approached for landing from any direction, which is important as wind shifts make landings
along an unchanging heading unsafe. The field was also found to be almost flight-ready, and would not be expensive to bring up
to standard. Furthermore, as the land belongs to the city, it was assumed that the local officials would recongize the benefits to
Ventspils of establishing an aerodrome and make the land available at little cost.
August 9, 1936 - Aviation Festival
September 27, 1936 - the second waypoint in the first "Flight Around Latvia" competition.
August 5, 1938 - site of an Aizsargi Aviacija training 'camp' session. 5 aircraft with 10 aviators practiced air gunnery
and long distance recon flights, then participated in the aviation festival.
August 7, 1938 - Aviation Festival
Oct.1, 1938 - the second waypoint in the "Flight Around Latvia" competition. They
landed at the aerodrome, refuelled, and continued on to Kuldiga.
August 6, 1939 - Aviation Festival
