LINDBERGS, JANIS

• Dec.13, 1888 - Born, in Leilstraupe
• Attended St.Petersburg University, studying physics, mathematics and, later, medicine.
• Nov.1, 1914 - called into the Russian military and assigned to the 1st Petrograd Aviation Guard.
• briefly attended theoretical studies related to shipbuilding
• April, 1915 - attended Sevastopol flight school
• Dec. 20, 1915 - graduated as a fully qualified pilot
• Jan.30, 1916 - assigned to the Black Sea naval aviation squadron
• served as his unit's technical advisor, being responsible for inspecting all aircraft and engines prior to their acceptance by the unit.
• Nov. 15, 1918 - called to serve in Kolchak's army as a naval pilot and, later, commander of his unit.
• 1920 - returns to Latvia and joins the technical division in the new military. For awhile he is a technical instructor in the aviation division.
• Dec. 13, 1922 - Named commander of the Naval Aviation Division (Rank: Captain)
• May 30, 1923 - Jevlampjevs replaces Lindberg as Commander of Naval Aviation.
• July 10, 1923 - Released from military service (until 1931 when he took commande of the Aizsargu Aviacija)
• 1924 - The Latvian Aero Club is formed, with Lindbergs as its first president.
• Sept. 1925 - now demobilized from the military, Lindbergs becomes involved in civil aviation.
• 1931-Dec.29, 1936 - serves as the first head of the Aizsargu Aviacija.
• August 18, 1934 - Participates in the Aviation Festival at Kuldiga.
• June 21, 1936 - Participates in the Aviation Festival at Valmiera.
• July 7, 1936 - Participates in the Aviation Festival at Riga/Spilve.
• July 12, 1936 - Participates in the Aviation Festival at Kuldiga.
• September 27, 1936 - attends the start of the first "Flight Around Latvia" competition.
• 1950-1956 - Soviets deport him to Siberia.
• Nov.1, 1966 - dies in Latvia, in a psychiatric hospital.
