These aircraft were a 1919 design, updated in 1922.
Unlike other Latvian aircraft, these particular planes apparently
did not have the serial numbers applied, only allocated.
They were factory numbers 5008 - 5010.
Irbitis states that Latvia acquired six Savoias, Bruvelis states only three, plus the one built from spares.
April 21, 1923 - the acceptance/test flights begin. #5010 is flown by N.Jevlampjevs and M.Vitolins,
#5009 by J.Lindbergs with Blodnieks.
May 31, 1923 - the third aircraft, #5008, is tested by Karlis Lepels.
June 1, 1924 Flyer Peteris Abrams is killed in the crash of S.16 #4.
March 21, 1925 - a fourth S.16, assembled from reserve parts, is activated for service. Its
engine was Fiat A-12bis no. 10766.
